Concensum – Protecting Copyright Owners’ Rights using Blockchain
This global copyright register, created by Concensum, is the next blockchain-enabled step in protecting the rights of copyright owners. Currently, it is aimed at photographers and photolibraries, but the Concensum blockchain is also open to any other copyright applications like video, music and other creative sectors that are plagued by the stealing of content.
Presently concensum.org is in the beta-testing stage, as the portal is being rolled out over the next eight months. The way it works is that a “hash” of the user’s personal data, including things like camera serial number, and the hash of the photo are stored in a blockchain-based database copyright registry.
Where Do Photolibraries and Other Copyright Holders Fit In?
Marcus Schmitt, CEO of Copytrack, says that they will be protecting the rights of agencies and other companies that have exclusive rights to the images. The registration process for companies will be slightly different from that of individuals, but after that, the method of using the system will be the same.
The Next Steps for Concensum
Marcus says, "We have already released the Main-Net, and the Token Swap will probably already be released by the time your article is published. The CPY token we released at the ICO which was an ERC-20 token, will be swapped into CEN, a QTUM token, now that we have our own blockchain, which is a fork of QTUM. On our website, we provide the wallet for the CEN, so it is all integrated. In general, we are happy that we managed to deliver The Global Copyright Register almost according to our roadmap."
Concensum’s Monitor search function already works through an API with Copytrack, so if you look at one of your images, and get for example 75 hits, that shows how many times the search engine found that particular image online. Then you will be taken to Copytrack’s site to investigate potential infringements. Policing copyright is something that many photographers, photolibraries and other copyright owners either do not wish to become involved in or do not have the time and expertise to struggle with legal issues; Concensum and Copytrack are providing a simple solution to this problem.
The main release is coming September/October.
