Profile

Founded in Florence in 1852 Fratelli Alinari is the oldest photography archive in the world. The birth of photography and the history of the archive are linked, as attested by the fund of over 5,500.000 photographs. The Archives and the Museum of History of Photography preserved the originals (glass plates, negative of films, vintage prints, colour photos) of the most Italian and non- Italian photographers ranging from the Alinari production to the present. This collection is ever growing, through new acquisitions and new campaigns of colour photographs. Thanks to an agreement with the Italian Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities, our archive is able to hire out to others photographic materials that reproduce coloured works of art owned by the Italian State. 250,000 photos of this outstanding collection are available on-line on high resolution at www.alinariarchives.it Alinari manages archives with images of the Italian history, such as Italian Touring Club, Luce Institute, Rizzoli and Rai TV, and also represents contemporary photographers such as Maraini (Orient), Maniscalchi (personalities), Bruni, Moroldo, Toscani and Lucas (reportage), Lelli&Masotti (shows) and Quilici (landscape, anthropology).
